Fort Bend ISD board votes to close 7 elementary schools

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — The Fort Bend ISD board of trustees approved a sweeping set of elementary school closures and boundary changes affecting dozens of campuses across the district, following months of community feedback and review by an advisory committee.

The board agreed in 4-3 votes seven elementary schools across the Northwest/Central and Southeast/Central areas of the district, with all changes set to take effect at the start of the 2026-27 school year. The proposals were reviewed and supported by the School Boundary Advisory Committee and opened for public comment in January 2026.

Beyond the closures, the district also proposed a series of boundary adjustments at schools not slated to close, shifting attendance zones at several campuses to better balance enrollment across the district. One adjustment involving Malala Elementary students moving to Madden Elementary is contingent on the completion of repairs at the Madden campus and will not necessarily take effect at the start of the 2026-27 school year…
