New Orleans mayor pushes legislative agenda ahead of regular session

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno said Sunday she is prepared to push a package of legislation at the start of the regular legislative session in Baton Rouge Monday, targeting what she described as long-term solutions to the city’s finances, crime, infrastructure and Sewage and Water Board operations.

Moreno said the city has been assessed more than $38 million in fines and penalties from the Municipal Police Employee Retirement System under a law that imposes penalties when a city loses more than 50 officers in a year.

“I might as well just throw that money in a bucket and light it on fire,” Moreno said. “Like, that’s really horrible for our general fund.”…
