NTSB: Pilot killed in Poplar Grove plane crash was not in contact with air traffic control

POPLAR GROVE, Ill. (WTVO) — The pilot who crashed a plane in a Poplar Grove neighborhood last month was not in contact with air traffic control prior to the fatal crash, according to a preliminary investigation report by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

According to the report, Richard McClung attended a fly-in at the Cottonwood Airport and was returning to Poplar Grove Airport in his amateur-built Tailwind W-8 plane.
