A mattress company based in the St. Louis-area has gotten an “F” rating from the Better Business Bureau.
Mattress Direct, Inc., which is based in St. Peters, Missouri in St. Charles County (about 27 miles west of downtown St. Louis) was given the rating after several customer complaints regarding delivery refunds and adequate customer service, according to a BBB press release issued Monday morning.
Here’s a few of the complaints that led to the company getting the lowest rating possible:
- An Edwardsville, Illinois, woman told BBB she paid over $4,800 for a mattress and adjustable bed frame in September 2025. Despite receiving numerous promised delivery dates, the items never arrived, and communication with the business was minimal, she told BBB.
- An O’Fallon, Missouri, woman told BBB she paid more than $2,700 for a mattress in August 2024 with an upgrade option. In July 2025, she requested the upgrade; however, after months of delays, the mattress delivered was not the one she ordered. Attempts to resolve the issue have been unsuccessful, she said.
- An Elsah, Illinois, man told BBB he purchased a mattress for just over $2,200 in March 2025 and was told delivery would occur within four weeks. He said he never received the product, and although Mattress Direct told him in June 2025 that a refund would be issued, he has not received the refund to date.
- A St. Charles, Missouri, man told BBB he paid $2,143 for a mattress in November 2025. After filing a BBB complaint, he said he finally received a product in January 2026 — only to discover that it was a used floor display model. He told BBB his attempts to obtain a replacement have gone unanswered.
“According to Missouri Secretary of State records, Mattress Direct, Inc. filed incorporation documents in September 2019. Its most recent annual report lists Robert P. McCurren as president,” the press release reads. “The company website indicates store locations in Chesterfield and St. Peters, Missouri, as well as a location in Alton, Illinois. Federal court filings show the company filed for bankruptcy in October 2023, and its plan for reorganization approved in October 2024.”…
