FORT PIERCE–The Fort Pierce City Commission Monday unanimously supported asking St. Lucie County voters Nov. 3 to reauthorize a half-cent infrastructure surcharge sales tax for another decade.
The millage, first approved by voters in 2016, currently generates $31.8 million annually to fund capital maintenance and infrastructure projects across St. Lucie County by adding a half-penny to the state’s established 6 percent sales tax.
The City of Fort Pierce’s share of that revenue is currently $2.8 million a year, which Mayor Linda Hudson said Monday has been used primarily for resurfacing city streets…
