RIPTA expands rideshare-style transit program with free first round-trip ride

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — A newly expanded rideshare program is going to give more Rhode Islanders the opportunity to request and book trips through an app in certain zones of the state.

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced Monday that it is launching a new microtransit pilot program in Coventry, Newport, Middletown, West Warwick and Westerly.

The program, called Flex On Demand, was first introduced in August 2024 in the 203 Flex Zone, which includes parts of Narragansett and South Kingstown.
