Officer, 15 year-old suspect injured during pursuit that ends in crash

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Rochester Police Department officer and a 15-year-old suspect were injured following a pursuit that ended in a crash on Marlborough Road on Sunday evening.

According to officers, they received a report of a stolen 2018 Hyundai Accent driving recklessly as they were in the area of Epworth Street and Dr. Samuel McRee Way at 6:24 p.m. Police say the vehicle was the subject of multiple calls to police throughout the day.

An officer saw the vehicle traveling northbound on Epworth Street as he was traveling southbound. As the Hyundai continued to speed on the street, RPD says the vehicle moved into the lane the officer was driving in and nearly struck his vehicle. A pursuit began and ended on Thurston Avenue and Marlborough Road when the vehicle failed to negotiate a turn and flipped onto its side.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 15-year-old boy from the City of Rochester. He sustained an injury to his lower body as a result of the crash. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment by ambulance, where his injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.
