In traffic-clogged California, Palo Alto pays some people to bike to work. Redwood Shores resident Abdallah Abou-Ismail rides an electric bike 14 miles to Stanford Shopping Center and earns $5. He uses Bike Love, a city app launched in 2022 that tracks bike, e-bike, e-scooter and e-skateboard commutes. Palo Alto Transportation Management Association says its 2025 programs cut demand for 482 parking spaces.
