Savannah expanding medical residencies to fight doctor shortage

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — Savannah will be adding more than 100 medical residency positions to address the doctor shortage in Coastal Georgia.

A major investment from Georgia lawmakers aims to help tackle the state’s growing physician shortage – starting in Savannah and across coastal Georgia.

State legislators approved $20 million in the amended state budget to expand medical residency programs in the region, with the largest portion – $16.7 million – going to St. Joseph’s/Candler to train the next generation of doctors…
