NWS to Survey Storm Damage in Central Alabama After Severe Weather

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) – The National Weather Service in Birmingham will conduct storm surveys Tuesday in Winston, Tuscaloosa and Jefferson counties following severe thunderstorms that moved through Central Alabama on Monday, March 9.

The surveys will help determine whether any tornadoes touched down and assess the extent of wind damage.

Confirmed Storm Reports

Multiple counties reported damage from strong winds overnight, primarily involving downed trees and power lines.

Jefferson County saw widespread tree damage, including reports in Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Homewood and Bessemer. On Betty Hill Road, heavy tree fall forced firefighters to cut their way through during search operations. Trees and power lines were also reported down on Shades Crest Road and near Mud Creek Road and Groundhog Road…
