1K people attend run, walk to honor fallen deputy

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — More than 1,000 people gathered Sunday morning, March 8 at Ascarate Park to remember and honor Deputy Peter J. Herrera who was killed in the line of duty in 2019.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office held its sixth annual Memorial 5K in Herrera’s honor.

With more than 1,000 participants, it marked the largest race the Sheriff’s Office has ever hosted.

“Deputy Herrera was known for his kindness, compassion, and dedication to serving others. Whether he was responding to a call for service or simply making a child smile, he left a lasting impact on our community. Today, we ran not only to remember him, but to celebrate the legacy of service and heart he left behind,” the Sheriff’s Office said on social media…
