Build-A-Bear workers plan strike after 4 employees fired

ST. LOUIS — Build-A-Bear Workshop employees plan to hold a one-day strike to protest the firing of four employees for what United Food and Commercial Workers Local 655 alleges is “protected union activities.”

The strike will be held at the retailer’s store in downtown St. Louis from 10:30 a.m. Saturday until 7 p.m., when the store closes, said Sean Shannon, lead organizer for Local 655. He called the work stoppage an “unfair labor practice strike” because UFCW has filed those charges with the National Labor Relations Board on behalf of the four former employees.
