Gwinnett Commission Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson has said multiple times that the county is facing a housing affordability crisis — and she believes economic development, workforce development and support for small businesses could be part of the solution.
While encouraging developers to build more affordable housing is one way to address the issue, Hendrickson said some of the initiatives she announced during her State of the County Address could also help in a different way: helping to potentially raise wages through workforce training and small business support programs.
“Through our workforce needs assessment, we want to make sure we are aligning the sectors that we’re trying to recruit with the workforce, and if we don’t have those skill sets then we need to put the skill sets in place so we can skill and train up, so that we can prepare the workforce to go and be employed by these that we’re recruiting,” Hendrickson told reporters after her speech…
