Man accused of threatening Providence police chief held without bail

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man caught on camera yelling at Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez after a crash faced a judge Monday.

Jonathan Galdamez, 31, was arrested last Friday after allegedly rear-ending Perez’s unmarked police vehicle on Broadway. According to the police report, Perez had stopped for a pedestrian when he was hit.

Police said Galdamez then aggressively confronted the chief, swearing, screaming and threatening him and his family.

In the video, Galdamez can be seen gesturing and pointing at Perez multiple times. Eventually, three additional police vehicles arrive and surround him before he is placed into the back of a cruiser.
