Roanoke community celebrates Burrell Day and legacy of Dr. Isaac Burrell

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – A Black man goes to get health care and is turned away because of the color of his skin. 111 years later, the City of Roanoke is celebrating how his story helped shape health care in our hometown.

Tuesday marks the 4th annual Burrell Day in Roanoke, an event honoring the life of Dr. Isaac Burrell and the history of the Burrell Memorial Hospital. Organizers say it’s a day to remember the past while bringing the community together.
