BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – After five years of service to the community, K9 Axin has officially retired from duty with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), marking the end of a career defined by teamwork, training and public safety.
Axin, a police dog trained in apprehension, narcotics detection and tracking, served alongside his handler, Sgt. Smusz, as part of the agency’s K9 program. During his career, Axin was also assigned to the Emergency Response Team and assisted the U.S. Marshals Service’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.
BCSO says Axin played a role in numerous suspect arrest and narcotics seizures during his distinguished time in service. The sheriff’s office says he contributed to investigations and operations across the region.
