A 36-year-old man, identified by the Cook County medical examiner as Aaron Pickens, was shot and killed early Tuesday in Sauk Village, adding another grim chapter to a violent week in the south suburbs.
Pickens was found in the 21600 block of Jeffrey Avenue and was pronounced dead around 2 a.m., according to officials. Sauk Village police did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the killing or the circumstances leading up to it.
Investigators were called to the Jeffrey Avenue scene in the early morning hours and later confirmed Pickens’ identity, as first reported by the Chicago Tribune. That reporting also notes the shooting comes on the heels of another fatal incident in Sauk Village earlier this week, when a 26-year-old Matteson woman was killed.
Medical examiner’s findings
The Cook County medical examiner’s office listed Pickens’ cause of death as a “gunshot wound to the torso” and confirmed he was pronounced dead at about 2 a.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.
