Bonner Springs man ran into burning home to save neighbors; elderly couple remains in critical condition

BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. (KCTV) – A Bonner Springs man who ran into a burning home to rescue his elderly neighbors was treated and released from the hospital, while the couple he tried to save remains in critical condition Tuesday.

Burt Haigh was walking his dogs near Allcutt Avenue and East Morse Avenue around 7:12 p.m. Monday when he spotted flames shooting from the front door of a neighbor’s home.

“I was walking the dogs and just rode around the corner and saw that there was a fire in the entryway,” Haigh said. “There were two people in there and they were yelling for help.”…
