Miley Cyrus Revisits Her “Hannah Montana” Roots in Emotional 20th Anniversary Special
Miley Cyrus is taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane, returning to her iconic “Hannah Montana” persona for an upcoming 20th-anniversary special. The singer, who rose to fame playing the dual role of high school student Miley Stewart and pop star Hannah Montana, offers fans a glimpse into the special in a recently released trailer, hinting at an emotional reunion with her past.
In the sneak peek, Cyrus is seen donning a Hannah Montana-inspired outfit as she explores recreated sets from the original Disney Channel show, including the familiar Stewart family living room and Hannah’s famous rotating closet. “I’m already getting emotional,” Cyrus confesses, clearly moved by the experience.
The special, moderated by Alex Cooper of the popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast, aims to celebrate a show that “defined a generation,” as Cooper notes in the trailer. It’s set to premiere on March 24 on Disney+, marking exactly two decades since “Hannah Montana” first graced television screens for its four-season run.
The trailer also features heartwarming moments, including Cyrus dancing with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, who played her dad on the show, and flipping through a photo album with her mother, Tish Cyrus.
In a press release announcing the special in February, Cyrus expressed her motivation for the project: “celebrating and thanking the fans” who have supported her for two decades. “‘Hannah Montana’ will always be a part of who I am,” Cyrus stated.
“What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of.”
Disney has teased that the special will offer a treasure trove of previously unreleased archival footage, alongside a revisiting of the show’s most cherished music and unforgettable moments.
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the show’s lasting impact. “‘Hannah Montana’ opened the door for so many fans to dream big, sing loud and embrace every side of themselves, which is why its legacy continues to shine across generations,” Davis said in a press statement. “Partnering with Miley on this special is a dream, and we want it to be a love letter to the fans, who remain as passionate today as they were when the series debuted almost 20 years ago.”
