Lowcountry pastor dies at 58 following fight against brain cancer

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A staple of the Lowcountry’s collegiate and religious communities has died after a yearslong battle with an aggressive brain cancer.

Rev. Jonathan “Jon” D. Davis, known to Charleston Southern University alumni and current students alike, died Monday at age 58, according to officials at the school.

Davis suffered stage 4 glioblastoma multiforme, a diagnosis he received in June 2021.

He was the pastor for Summit Church in North Charleston, a post he held until his death, and additionally served as assistant campus pastor, campus pastor and associate vice president for spiritual life at Charleston Southern University over the course of two decades.
