CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The restoration of the iconic Walnut Street Bridge has reached its final stages, bringing the project one step closer to reopening in late September 2026.
Chattanooga Public Works says crews have officially removed the final containment and painting tarp from Span 1, marking the end of the large-scale containment phase that has defined the bridge’s appearance for months.
While minor touch-up painting will continue in areas where the containment structures were secured, the tarp removal signals that major painting operations are complete.
