West Side man sentenced to federal prison for building 3 pipe bombs

GREEN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKRC) – A Green Township man will spend two years in federal prison after authorities said he built and detonated pipe bombs in Hamilton and Butler counties in 2025.

Investigators said Robert Gilb, 51, caused the detonation of three improvised explosive devices in March and April 2025.

On April 12, Hamilton County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Miami Township for a report of a loud explosion. Deputies found what appeared to be a blast crater and components of an improvised explosive device.

Investigators later determined two earlier incidents in Morgan Township had similar characteristics. Butler County sheriff’s deputies responded to explosions there on March 23 and March 28. Witnesses reported seeing Gilb in his white BMW near the site of at least one of the devices when it exploded…
