After appealing a sentence brought by an Erie County judge to a superior court, the man responsible for the death of a North East firefighter at a crash scene in 2023 will not have his sentence reduced.
Court documents from March 10 upheld the sentencing of Dawann Simmons in early January of 2025.

Simmons was given 9 to 18 years in prison for the death of Shawn Giles, who was responding to the scene of a crash when he was struck by Simmons at a high rate of speed.
