Central Pa. man who killed grandma, community pillar, in DUI crash learns his fate

A Carlisle man who rammed his vehicle into an elderly couple on a downtown Carlisle sidewalk last year after leaving a bar has been sent to state prison.

Martin Brinton, 57, will spend at least three years locked up for killing 73-year-old Ellen Kievit, a beloved pillar of the Carlisle community, and severely injuring her husband, retired Col. James Kievit, 75.

His sentence could last up to 10 years, but even if he’s paroled after the three-year mark, Brinton is prohibited from getting a driver’s license until the 10 years expires…
