US Coast Guard chooses Alabama for training facility despite push for Lowcountry

BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WSAV) — A decision has been made, and officials have settled on the location for a new U.S. Coast Guard training facility.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. Coast Guard announced the facility will be located at Birmingham-Southern College (BSC) in Alabama. The announcement came after the U.S. Coast Guard said they were looking for potential locations for the training center, and the Beaufort Naval Hospital in Port Royal was one of them.
