WELLINGTON, Fla. (CBS12) — New Horizons Elementary School briefly went into lockdown Tuesday morning after administrators and School Police investigated a report of a potentially unsafe item on campus, according to a message sent to families and staff.
The school confirmed that all students and staff were safe during the precautionary lockdown, which lasted only a short time. Classes resumed as scheduled once the campus was cleared.
According to Principal Gloria Salazar, an administrative search led to the discovery of a toy gun in a student’s possession. While the item was not a real weapon, its presence on campus triggered the district’s safety protocols.
