ALBANY — Mayor Dorcey Applyrs on Tuesday named University at Albany professor Lani Jones to serve on the city’s Community Police Review Board as recriminations and resignations have, for months, stymied the body’s ability to review cases of alleged police misconduct.
“This city deserves an addition to the CPRB who will help to successfully fulfill its important duties,” Applyrs said in the statement announcing her appointment. “Dr. Lani Jones shares my vision for this City and a commitment to our residents’ safety. I deeply appreciate that she has risen to this occasion and accepted this important call to public service.”
Jones is a professor in the School of Social Welfare, and her academic focus centers on “mental health practice with a focus on enhancing psychosocial competence among women of color (and) she has more than 20 years of experience providing therapy to women of color,” the statement says…
