Killer Still Loose As Dorchester Mourns Slain Youth Mentor Kendric Price

On March 2, 2019, Dorchester native and youth mentor Kendric Price was shot and killed outside a garage on Greenwood Street. He was 32 when officers found him fatally wounded that morning. Seven years later, his killing remains unsolved, and his family says they are still living with the same questions they had that day.

As reported by the The Boston Globe, no one has ever been charged in Price’s death. His mother, Carol Price, has repeatedly pleaded with anyone who knows something to come forward. “Please do not let this become a cold case,” she told the paper, adding in a written statement that the person who killed her son “has probably killed other people since.”

Police records and tip lines

The Boston Police Department list of 2019 unsolved homicides shows that officers responded to 12A Greenwood Street on March 2, 2019, and that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Price’s death a homicide. Investigators are still asking anyone with information to call the BPD Homicide Unit at 617-343-4470 or leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-494-TIPS.

Price’s work with young people

After earning a scholarship to the University of Michigan, Price returned home to Boston and built his life around mentoring city youth. He founded Big Business Network to teach kids about finance through basketball. Boston.com reported that he coached at UMass Boston and Roxbury Community College and had just started working at Cristo Rey Boston High School shortly before his death, where staff said his presence was already resonating with students.

Family plea and the investigation

Carol Price now refers to March 2 as a “trauma-versary” and told the The Boston Globe that she still relives the day her son was killed. The paper quoted Boston police spokesman John Boyle saying the case remains “open and active” and urging anyone with information, no matter how small a detail it may seem, to contact detectives.

Neighborhood context

Neighbors say Greenwood Street has continued to see gun violence in the years since Price was killed, a grim backdrop to his family’s belief that the shooter may have struck again. A July 2024 incident on Greenwood wounded five people, including a child, and rattled residents who were already on edge. The Dorchester Reporter covered the 2024 shooting and the community’s concerns…
