Cheatham County’s 2026 Vietnam Veterans Day celebration March 28

Since being designated 14 years ago, National Vietnam Veterans Day has helped shine a lot on a group of service members who didn’t get the recognition or respect they deserved when coming home. Cheatham County has established a tradition of honoring its native sons and daughters who travelled so far to defend freedom, and this year, organizers want to make sure everyone gets a chance to pay their respects and be recognized for their sacrifices.

This year’s National Vietnam War Veterans Day celebration in Cheatham County will be held on Saturday, March 28 at 11 a.m. at the Cheatham County Veterans Memorial Park in Ashland City. In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will be moved to the gymnasium of Ashland City Elementary School. A meal will follow, provided by Amanda Bell of Amanda Bell Realty.

National Vietnam Veterans Day was proclaimed by former President Barack Obama to be celebrated annually on March 29, beginning in 2012. Though Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1129 have previously held the local celebrations on March 29, VVA # 1129 adjutant Harold Hodges told The Cheatham County Exchange that the change was made to Saturday this year to facilitate better attendance…
