Bound by music: The Meyers unite genres and generations

Seven-time Grammy winner Edgar Meyer joins son George Meyer for a boundary-breaking evening of classical, bluegrass and jazz in Fort Myers

The Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center is gearing up for a performance by Grammy Award-winning artist Edgar Meyer and his son George Meyer.

Seven-time Grammy Award winner Edgar Meyer brings his specialty of combining genres for a performance filled with classical, bluegrass, newgrass and jazz. Son, George Meyer, comes with a strong resume of classical and “fiddle music.” His love for string instruments is put on display through his skills with the violin.

Devon Parker, executive director of the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center, is looking forward to the show and to the father-son duo’s collaboration to showcase a unique mashup of genres.

“What makes this performance especially compelling is its spirit of convergence. Meyer’s music dissolves traditional boundaries between classical, bluegrass, and contemporary composition. Rather than presenting genres side by side, he weaves them together seamlessly — honoring tradition while reshaping it in real time,” Parker said. “Adding to the uniqueness of the evening is the familial collaboration with his son, George Meyer. Their performance becomes more than a virtuosic display; it is a living dialogue across generations — a testament to the passing of tradition, innovation, and artistry within a family. Audiences witness not only extraordinary musicianship, but the human connection that animates it.”…
