Developer, concerned neighbors speak out on proposed neighborhood near Fort Wayne airport

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Residents of southwest Allen County spoke out at a hearing on Wednesday against a proposed development that would bring 689 new homes right across the street.

Coverdale Development, LLC filed an application with the zoning appeals board in an attempt to change the zoning of approximately 170 acres of land from agricultural to residential. The move would be a step toward creating the Communities of Calusa, which would likely consist of apartments, condos, or townhomes nestled off of Coverdale Road between Ferguson and Winters roads.

At a Board of Zoning Appeals hearing on Wednesday, Christina Egts – who lives adjacent to the proposed development – said it would hinder safety in the area.
