Battered Budget Inn on Government Street set for major overhaul

A major renovation is planned for a downtown Mobile motel. The Architectural Review Board approved design plans for the Budget Inn on Government Street. The 1950s-era motel has seen better days. A driver behind the wheel of a U-Haul truck hit the covered motel entrance last year, significantly damaging the property. Tarps cover a section on the north side that faces Government Street. The project includes new windows, doors and creating a rooftop deck.

“I think it’s, it’s perfect, and it’s exactly the kind of renovation, revitalization we want to see in downtown,” said Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis. “I’d love to see that hotel packed out I’d love to see that hotel packed out during Mardi Gras with people celebrating on the balconies on the street side. They’re right there on the parade route.”
