Juvenile hurt in shooting on Jefferson Ave in Newport News; man arrested

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY)– A juvenile is hurt after being shot in Newport News Tuesday night.

According to police, officers were called to the 11700 block of Jefferson Avenue at 9:30 p.m. for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a juvenile with a gunshot wound. The juvenile was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result, police arrested 50-year-old Jerome Curtis Bailey. He faces the following charges:

  • Abuse/neglect
  • Reckless handling of a firearm
