‘Going to be beneficial’: Myrtle Beach bartender happy after South Carolina’s alcohol-server training deadline extended

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WBTW) — Gov. Henry McMaster signed legislation on Monday to extend a new training deadline for those involved with serving alcohol at South Carolina bars and restaurants.

Servers and managers who haven’t already completed the mandatory training tied to the state’s new liquor liability law now have until May 1 to comply. The state Department of Revenue said it had issued 39,361 alcohol server certificates as of Monday.

The extension is good news for many businesses and workers, who had complained that they were not given enough time to complete the training after the liquor liability law went into effect in January. The law, which has drawn mixed reviews from Myrtle Beach restaurant owners, is designed to reduce excessive liability and address the rising cost of insurance for restaurants and bars…
