Voters reject West Manatee Fire District tax hike

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – Residents in the West Manatee Fire and Rescue District rejected a property tax hike Tuesday in a referendum vote.

Voters were asked to approve a 1-mill annual ad valorem tax on real property to fund fire control and rescue services, infrastructure and facilities, including emergency medical services.

The measure failed, 65% to 43.9%.

In the only other referendum vote in Manatee County, residents of the Trailer Estates Park & Recreation District approved deed restriction amendments regulating the size and types of yard signs, and tweaked what “unsightly” means to property maintenance…
