A Woman In Construction: Patricia “Pat” Mathis

Patricia “Pat” Mathis is a native of Sparks, Cook County, Georgia, and the youngest of three siblings. She attended and graduated from the Cook County Public School System, and entered Savannah State (College) University, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Following graduation, Pat started her professional career in the construction industry with the premier African-American firm, now known as The Polote Corporation, and after several years of employment, ventured out and formed Pat Mathis Construction Company in 1980. Pat Mathis Construction Company, and Pat, are known as one of the industry’s most highly recognized female and African American businesses of its kind throughout the Southeastern United States. Pat Mathis Construction Company has a successful track record for building and/or participating in some very high-profile projects in the state of Georgia and the City of Savannah.

Pat has and continues to actively participate in a number of community organizations whose missions are targeted to causes that address improving the livelihoods of the oppressed and downtrodden, and has advocated for fair business practices to address the economic inclusion of historically excluded sectors in the purchasing of goods and services. She firmly believes in lending a helping hand to her fellow man, which drives her passion for organizations like the Old Savannah City Mission, Union Mission, former Greenbriar Children’s Center, and Senior Citizens, Inc., to name a few, and people in general…
