UI scoliosis patients donate 280 Higgy Bears to comfort children in care

NORTH LIBERTY, Iowa — Two University of Iowa Health Care scoliosis patients donated 280 stuffed “Higgy Bears” to their care team after raising thousands of dollars through a national charitable initiative.

Meredith and Addy delivered the bears Tuesday morning at the University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center’s North Liberty campus.

The girls participated in The Higgy Bear Million Bear Challenge, a national campaign that provides stuffed animals to children receiving medical care. They created an online fundraising page and promoted it on social media, raising $3,550 by Dec. 31. Their efforts resulted in 280 Higgy Bears that will be donated to the hospital…
