H-E-B to build new store, ‘transform’ former landfill into retail hub

Texas’ homegrown grocer is planning to build a second store in a small, but growing, town off of Interstate 35. Buda officials recently confirmed that a long-vacant former landfill is set to be transformed into a new retail destination anchored by an H-E-B.

The store will be located along the southbound IH-35 access road north of Main Street in Buda, a city just south of Austin. The announcement comes three months after Buda City Council voted unanimously to approve a zoning change for H-E-B to redevelop the land.

This project is a partnership between the City of Buda, Buda Economic Development Corporation (Buda EDC), Hays County and H-E-B. It’s expected bring new jobs, expand shopping options, increase tax revenue and include environmental remediation and roadway improvements, according to a news release…
