SPD K-9 assists LSP in capturing convicted felon

SHREVEPORT, La. — A new Shreveport police K-9 is getting attention for assisting in tracking down and apprehending a convicted felon who’s now in jail on a host of criminal charges.

This was K-9 Rudo’s first apprehension, an early milestone in what officers believe will be a long and successful career serving the citizens of Shreveport, police said.

Rudo and his handler were called in to help early Friday morning when a man pursued by state troopers crashed near Patzman and North Western streets then ran. The man, later identified as Matthew Lawson, 37, jumped a barbed-wire fence and went into a wooded area.

That’s where Rudo and his handler picked up the trail, going through thick brush and wooded terrain. Items belonging to Lawson, including a brush, pair of shoes and a black sock, were found along the way…
