Vancouver Public Schools approves 2026-27 cuts, nearly 200 jobs

VANCOUVER, WASH. (KATU) — Vancouver Public Schools (VPS) is facing even more budget cuts.

In an effort to help the district’s $24 million budget deficit, the district’s Board of Directors on Tuesday approved reductions of nearly 200 full-time staff members for the 2026–27 school year.

“We reduced non-personnel expenses wherever legally and operationally possible, including program closures, contract reductions, deferred purchases, and operational adjustments,” the district wrote in a letter sent to VPS families after Tuesday’s meeting…
