Orange County network cable installation begins March 11

Orange County announced that installation of new fiber-optic communication lines in portions of Hillsborough will begin on March 11, 2026. The work is expected to take four to six weeks, finishing by late April 2026. This follows earlier preparation work by Duke Energy crews who trimmed trees and upgraded utility poles along the route.

The project will create a dedicated fiber connection between Orange County’s North Campus (1020 U.S. 70) and West Campus (131 West Margaret Lane). Installation will start in residential areas and finish along major roadways, including U.S. 70. The county noted that this project is not related to the Lumos Broadband project.
