Community corrections violations lead to longer sentences for two

ROCKPORT, Ind. (WEVV) — The Spencer County Prosecutor’s Office recently secured lengthy executed sentences for two offenders who violated their community corrections programs.

Austin Helms, originally sentenced in March 2015 for methamphetamine dealing and resisting law enforcement, faced a full revocation of his remaining sentence of more than nine years. Chief Deputy Prosecutor Eric Tempel said he presented evidence of Helms’ unaccounted time during his work release, leading to this decision.

Noah Jones, sentenced in July 2020 on multiple felony convictions, also violated his community corrections program, the prosecutor’s office stated. Prosecutor Megan Bennet negotiated an agreement for Jones to serve more than seven years in the Indiana Department of Correction due to what Bennet says is habitual rule violations…
