Wrong-Way Kepler Crash Kills Sanford Woman, Injures Oviedo Driver

A pre-dawn wrong-way crash on Kepler Road near Mimosa Lane in Volusia County left a 27-year-old woman dead, and a 33-year-old man hurt early Wednesday, briefly turning the usually quiet stretch into a major crash scene.

According to WFTV, the Florida Highway Patrol said troopers responded shortly after 3 a.m. after a Ford Edge traveling north in the southbound lane collided head-on with a Honda Civic. The Civic’s driver, a 27-year-old woman from Sanford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, a 33-year-old man from Oviedo, was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center with minor injuries. Troopers said the drivers’ names had not yet been released, pending notification of their families.

The crash shut down a stretch of North Kepler Road while investigators documented the scene and cleared debris, and the FHP urged drivers to steer clear of the area. WESH reported that International Speedway Boulevard and Minnesota Avenue were recommended detours during the closure.
