Garner Rollover Horror as Driver Faces Felony Charges in Passenger’s Death

A Friday night drive on Jones Sausage Road ended in tragedy with an SUV on its roof, four people rushed to the hospital and one passenger who did not survive. Now, police say the Garner man behind the wheel is facing a slate of felony charges tied to the deadly rollover.

The single-vehicle crash happened last Friday, and prosecutors on Wednesday charged Alberto Urieta-Calixto Jr. with felony death by vehicle and felony serious injury by motor vehicle, according to The News & Observer. The outlet also reported that Urieta-Calixto is charged with driving while impaired and consuming alcohol while underage. He was arrested at the scene and remains in custody as investigators continue their work.

Garner police say officers were called out around 10:24 p.m. Friday after an SUV overturned on Jones Sausage Road near the town’s Amazon distribution hub, shutting down the busy corridor for several hours. All four people in the vehicle were taken to WakeMed Raleigh for treatment, and two were initially reported in critical condition, as reported by ABC11.
