San Francisco Supervisor Jackie Fielder has called for an audit of the sheriff’s department, citing recent controversies and its ballooning overtime spending.
Fielder requested the audit to ensure that the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office was using taxpayer funds “efficiently and dutifully” at a time when Mayor Daniel Lurie is urging city departments to tighten their belts, she said Tuesday at a Board of Supervisors meeting.
“San Franciscans deserve accountability when it comes to how public funds are spent, especially when serious allegations of abuse and potentially fiscal negligence are at hand,” Fielder said. “Taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being used and whether public resources are being directed responsibly.”…
