Serving food and building community at Bailiwick Market & Cafe in Elbridge (Dining Out Review)

Elbridge, N.Y. — Good food brings people together. Great neighborhood restaurants build community. In Central New York, Bailiwick Cafe and Market does both.

Bailiwick is located on the western outskirts of the village of Elbridge, only a minute or two from the Onondaga-Cayuga county line. It’s one of only a handful of dining establishments in Elbridge, which is perhaps why Bailiwick strives to do a little bit of everything.

The big red barn off Route 5 opens at 7 a.m. daily for breakfast and stays open through dinner. No matter the time of day, Bailiwick’s commitment to local sourcing doesn’t waver. The airy space doubles as a restaurant and retail shop, where grocery items from Upstate New York producers share space with handmade ceramics, jewelry, housewares and other works by Central New York artists.

Bailiwick churns its own Field of Creams ice cream, available year-round at the ice cream counter. There’s a full coffee bar menu, featuring espresso drinks made with coffee sourced from Milkhouse Roastery in Marcellus, teas from Harney & Sons and dairy from Hillcrest Dairy in Moravia. There’s a bakery case stocked with cupcakes, brownies, coffee cakes, half-moon cookies and other baked goods, all big enough for at least two people to share and, like everything else, made in-house…
