Argument in apartment preceded Spencer shooting, court documents show

A “verbal altercation” preceded the initial Feb. 3 shooting in which a Spencer man was seriously hurt by a neighbor who was later killed after shooting at police, court documents indicate.

Patrick Madison, 35, went into his 20 Main St. apartment with a neighbor, Sean Scannell, and left in a “quick manner” after “shouting and yelling” were heard inside, police wrote in a court document.

The document, filed in connection with a search of Madison’s home, does not state the nature of the verbal altercation. Prosecutors have yet to detail a motive in the attack and declined to comment for this article, citing an ongoing investigation into Madison’s death…
