Report: Maryland 5 Star Event Cancelled For 2026

The Maryland 5 Star three-day eventing competition at Fair Hill in Elkton, Md., has been canceled for 2026, according to The Chronicle of the Horse. The event offered the highest level of three-day eventing sport, one of just seven such competitions worldwide.

The Fair Hill Training Center, at which the event was held for five straight years, is also home to notable Thoroughbred trainers like Graham Motion and Keri Brion. Last year’s edition of the prestigious eventing competition was especially noteworthy to the local Thoroughbred community due to the success and ultimately second-place finish of Artist, a registered New Zealand Thoroughbred. The event also hosted the Real Rider Cup for the first time in 2025.

Late in 2025, however, the Equiery reported that top officials with the Maryland 5 Star had departed. The Chronicle reports that analysts recommended the multimillion-dollar state grants helping to finance the competition be deleted from the state budget beginning in July 2026…
