Kona storm knocks out power to thousands; HECO crews working to restore service

HONOLULU (Island News) – Crews with the Hawaiian Electric Company (HECO) are responding to multiple power outages reported across Hawaii as a storm continues across the state on Thursday.

As of 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, HECO reported that approximately 690 customers in the Waipio area are without power. Along with approximately 1,360 customers in the Mililani area being left in the dark.

It was reported at 8:20 a.m. that power was restored to a majority of customers in the Waipio area, however approximately 20 customers remain in the dark until crews safely complete inspections. An estimated restore time for Waipio is 2:30 p.m., according to HECO…
