Downtown Taco Takeover: Pequeño Cantina Plants Second Flag By Comerica Park

Pequeño Cantina has quietly leveled up, opening a second Detroit location at 1521 Broadway and dropping its spicy, late-night taco-and-tequila vibe right into the city’s theater-and-ballpark corridor. Owner and chef Frank Blackman is lifting the Avenue of Fashion spot’s colorful menu and late-night feel into a compact downtown room, complete with a pizza oven and an expanded cocktail program aimed squarely at pre- and post-show crowds.

Where It Sits Downtown

The new Broadway storefront sits just steps from the Detroit Opera House and a short walk from Comerica Park, putting the cantina in the path of theatergoers and game-night traffic. The Detroit News confirmed the opening and the 1521 Broadway address.

Menu And Late-Night Energy

Blackman is bringing over his signature lineup — birria, maple-lime wings and waffle-fry nachos — to the Broadway room. The new location also adds a Mexican-style pizza from a dedicated oven, according to What Now Detroit. The downtown menu pairs with an amplified tequila-and-cocktail program meant to fuel crowds before and after shows.

From Livernois To Broadway

Blackman opened the original Pequeño Cantina on Detroit’s Avenue of Fashion in 2021, where the restaurant picked up local praise for its birria and creative cocktails. Metro Times reviewed the Livernois outpost and noted the neighborhood following the chef has built.

Blackman has told reporters he sees room to grow Pequeño into multiple locations across Detroit, with long-term expansion on his radar, per What Now Detroit.
